Macon-Bibb County Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. is
in the business of "Helping People and Changing Lives". With
help from our Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, local
businesses, locally elected officials and friends, we tackle
the war on poverty. It is our mission to help improve the
quality of life for all families and individuals in the Macon
and Bibb County area.
I understand that the journey to self-sufficiency is not
easy. It takes dedication, hard work, commitment, and patience
to ensure that each low-income family that is served through
this agency becomes independent. Sustaining that kind of
attitude poses a challenge. How do you assist a family or
an individual without fostering dependency? How do you rescue
an indigent homeless person off the street when there are
not enough resources or funds available to assist a community
that is under served? It starts by identifying the barriers
to individual and family self-sufficiency. We have to focus
all available resources toward an elimination of these barriers:
thereby enabling low income individuals to obtain the skills,
knowledge, and motivation to extricate themselves from their
poverty condition.
There are vast numbers of individuals in this community
who lack the necessary skills to survive, to become successful,
and to maintain an acceptable standard of living. We live
in a time and a place where our youth have lost respect for
their fellow men. It is time to change our mindset, our way
of thinking. We need to take back our children, our brothers
and our sisters, the ones that are entangled in the yoke
of poverty.
Macon-Bibb E.O.C., Inc. appreciates everyone's support as
