Energy Assistance Program

The Georgia Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally funded program that helps low-income households pay their home energy bills. This support can reduce risks such as illness, fire, or utility disconnection.  Through Georgia LIHEAP, eligible households may receive:

  • Help with energy bill payments
  • Emergency energy crisis assistance

Eligibility Requirements:

To qualify for LIHEAP in Georgia, applicants must meet the following:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or legally admitted immigrant
  • Have a total gross annual household income at or below 60% of the State Median Income
  • Be fully responsible for paying energy costs for the household’s main heating source

Additional Information:

  • Assistance is provided on a first-come, first-served basis within each agency’s service area.
  • Applicants are encouraged to apply early before funds run out.

Please Note:

  • Households that have an energy bill credit of $1,000 or more are not eligible.

Our Energy Assistance Program operates in two seasonal application periods:

🔥 Heating Assistance: December through March, or until available funds are exhausted.
❄️ Cooling Assistance: April through September, or until available funds are exhausted.

Eligible households may apply once per program period. This means you may submit one application for the Heating Assistance Program and one application for the Cooling Assistance Program during their respective enrollment periods.

Duplicate applications are not permitted. If more than one application is submitted for the same program period, the duplicate application(s) will be denied.
